auto-manual conversion help

has anyone ever converted an auto to a stick?
my buddy is gettin everything he needs for his zc swap but we're gonna convert it to manual..naturally. has anyone ever done this im just wondering howw difficult it is concerning linkage, pedal assembly, etc?

I could tell you what's needed.

Pedal Set Assembly - requires removing the dash I beleive if I remember right...I think it's over the collumn at the firewall.

Any 88-91 Manual Clutch Cable

Any 88-91 Manual Tranny, however must be a Civic or CRX, not integra 88-89 or 90-93. JDM integra trannies work, and so do the ZC - with special requirements for axles.

Any 88-91 Manual Shift Linkage, Shifter assmebly, and shift boot from the same model Honda as yours. If it is a CRX, I know you can jsut swap in the boot and adhere it...however I am not certain with the civic, but it should be the same deal.

90-91 Models have an extra wiring set, in the CRX at least, for the instrument cluster gear selector display, there is extra wire taps off the gear selector and it runs to a blue box in the middle front floorboard of the driver's seat. This is the CRX, however it can be left or removed. This only functions when plugged in at the gear selector. You can also simply swap in a manual cluster provided it falls within the same years as yours; the categories are 88-89 all models plug-in same, and 90-91 all models plug-in the same.

The ECU has to be changed out. However I have noticed a DX auto will run in a DX manual and opposite without codes, but it will not run as well...timing is out of synch and feels somehow wrong when accelerating. So you can do this is in the meantime if you have to. The extra two wires for the solenoid...leave them, cut them, tape the clipped ends after the swap is running and driving...doesn't matter really, won't be used again.

The Rear Engine mount - you need a manual mount. I recommend going to Place Racing and buying Rear Mount PUM04D...poly mount, www.placeracing.com. It's about $20.00 more then a stock replacement, but you will never have engine slop again, I can say this as it works on my Civic.
The Rear engine mount needs to be changed out from automatic to manual, and the mount needs ot be repositioned more to the driver's side as their is another set of holes there. I really haven't done this, but it's what I've been told. At worst, and you have to look into this, it may require a manual rear crossmember (which the junkyards call a Rear K-frame, shaped like a K).

Make sure the Tranny comes with the front and rear passenger mounts and brackets.

Your Radiator will have two lines coming out the bottom for the transmission cooler. I would and would not worry about them. However you will notice that the fins on the lwoer corner of your radiator are eaten away by the ATF fluid from the auto tranny. It's true this happens after a while. It doesn't really affect cooling, however if you need a replacement radiator, goto radiators.com and they run $110 to your door. Goto the D16Z6 upgrade post on this board and look at the radiator upgrade there for my wife's car to get an idea.
..Anyways, By two A&N end connectors, very cheap at a parts store...I mean a real aprts store, not autozone (POS fastfood-like franchise parts store BS Crap, arghhh, Autozone #*%&T!!!...I like em, but I don't, I'd still by parts there, but they don't have what I'm ever looking for and they get shitty with me about it...AHoles).
